I’ve been researching for a laptop for a few months now. I orginally really wanted to get a Macbook, either higher or lower end (didn’t really matter), but with 2 GB RAM (that’s the main thing I’m interested in). I have been leaning away from that idea because I would just be using windows anyway. I was willing to spend the extra money because the virus risk was so low. But I figured I would just get a decent security program…I was referred to look at Toshiba, HP-Business, and Lenovo ThinkPad computers. I am recently interested in a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510(59012698) Intel Core 2 Duo T5450(1.66GHz) 15.4 Wide XGA 2GB Memory 160GB HDD Dual layer DVD Burner Intel GMA X3100 NoteBook. I’m not too sure about the others. I mainly want a reliable laptop with Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint. It’s just for writing papers, nothing too fancy like arcitecture or something. I am kind of nervous about the Vista system but I’ll just have to deal with it if I’m getting a Windows based computer.

Hi the laptops that you mentioned are all reasonable choices. Most people are going to give you their opinion based on what if affordable for them, not what is best for you. As a college student, i think that the Toshiba is an excellent choice. Ive been through HP’s and Toshibas. They have both proven reliable but for some reason, Toshibas are more sturdy. I think thats an important factor to take into consideration, you know, soda near the laptop a knock here a bump there…i hope this helps you decide.
Hp Pavilion.
In my Opinion the best laptop for a student is Dell XPS M1730 or M1530, beautiful machine , powered with more graphical display capabilities, affordable price , easy to find maintenance centers. see pictures and information in hardware laptop.
best wishes.
