Can I use the blackberry storm in a different country with a sim card from THAT country?

BlackBerry Storm
KabalaBaby asked:

I basically want to know if the blackberry storm is GSM and if it can be unlocked… I know Verizon phones usually can not be unlocked, but there are exceptions such as the “Blackberry World Edition”

I need help because I travel frequently and need a phone that I can simply insert a local sim card in and be good.

You don’t need to unlock the phone. Since the 8830 and Storm are both GSM phones on CDMA network. You would not be able to use the GSM in North American but outside NA all you have to do is simply pop in the GSM SIM and it should work.

If you see GPRS instead of 1XEV that you seen on the top right hand corner then you are on GSM. If you do not see that then go into your Options Network and switch off CDMA.
