What is the best compatible replacement motherboard and hard drive for my 5+ year old IBM ThinkPad model A31p?

I am having problems with my system board and would like to replace it and the HDD too while I’m at it.

I have an IBM ThinkPad A31p model number 2653-H3U. The laptop is old I know, but it ran well up until recently.

I know the OEM is a 60GB IDE HDD, but I’m not real sure about the system board specs.

I’m looking for a good balance of cost effectiveness and performance. I’m not really interested in increasing the available HDD space too much. Maybe an 80 or 100GB drive will do.

Another thing I’m trying to determine is will it be worth my time, energy and $$$ to swap these 2 components out, or should I just buy a new laptop?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

5 years old ? - Better think about a new machine.

I’d stick with Lenovo - same ThinkPad quality, different name.
