It seems this website is filled with mindless 12 year old apple fanboys. Here's my take, Lenovo thinkpads are simply the toughest notebooks produced, they will last you. I have a t40 that's 5 years old and still running strong with no issues. If you work in business or plan on gaming, do not get an apple. Most business applications are not compatible with mac os so check with your employer regarding that. If you have several clients at your office, then I doubt they'll be running mac os. Mac os is more for artsy media geared majors. Vista doesn't have too many security issues, if you spec your notebook well, vista runs without any slowdowns or problems. PS: I see you're running a home office, and I understand you're not a techie, but yahoo answers is not the best place to get tech answers as most of the people here don't know what the hell they're talking about. And I believe half of them are pre-teens.

go with an apple mac. i only say this because now vista is out it has alot of security problems and so many diferent version that dont even make sense. dont also forget about those viruses. macs do have viruses but there not as common as a windows based computer. so if you do decide to get a mac still consider getting anti-virus for it

ok this may spark a little controversy but Best(or worst) Buy has an hp/Compaq model C714NR for 599.99...may be available on EBAY for less...think its best bang for your buck...got one on sale for 449.99 but no longer available at that price...I do not have any financial connection to any above...let the disagreements begin
check BB web site for specs...may need to add some ram
agree with darwin's comment on cost and technology

Whichever model it is, go for a notebook that will give you the longest battery life and least maintenance. I like Dell - because they have great screens and battery life. Check out the screens before you buy, choose one you are comfortable with.

If you're not a techie then go for an Apple running Mac OS X. It is the most simple and user-friendly system. You don't have to worry about all the spyware, viruses, trojans, adware and rootkits that Microsoft Windows users get. You can also forget about defragging because your system is ground to a halt. You don't need to know what a registry is, or how to fix your corrupted and bloated one.... you can just get on and use it :)
