What will happen if I put 2 GB instead of 1 GB of Ram in my Acer Aspire One?

I have 1 GB of Ram in my Acer Aspire one, is there a mechanism or software which blocks more ram being added? does the motherboard or processor only support a maximum of 1 GB of Ram? I find that odd because 0.5 GB is already soldered so technically it should accept more than 1 GB of Ram.

Do you even know if your motherboard will accept 2GB? It sounds like you need to run a full free scan by Belarc. It will tell you everything on your computer and what amount of memory your mobo will accept.

You can also run a scan by Crucial for memory only:

your computer can hold as much ram as you can place inside of it. so if you had a stick of ram that was compatible with ur mother board you can put in as much as you possibly can hold. and yes the more you put in the more your computer is responsive and can react. so more ram is better. and there is no program blocking it.

The RAM isn’t soldered (at least I hope it’s not, for your sake). Most laptops can take between 2 GB and 4GB, based on the hardware and with OS you’re using.

Check the specs of the laptop at Acer’s website…that will tell you what the maximum ram is. Or go to crucial.com and have the system scanned. they’ll tell you exactly what your system can take and how much it will cost.

RAM chips are installed in sockets, usually one on top of the other in a laptop. They’re easy to remove, usually by releasing some clips and allowing it to pop out of the slot.

I think I helped with the question you had before this. Searching google I put in “Acer Aspire One max Memory” and I easily found out that it takes only 1.5GB max. So you need a 1GB to accompany your .5GB already installed.

Adding more memory than your computer can handle won’t do anything. It just won’t recognize it at all.

First check to see what is the most ram/memory modules your lap top will support and the exact type. Do not exceed the maximum amount or use any thing except the ones called for, all specifications have to be the same as what came in your lap top as to type, speed, Ghz, Mhz etc. If you use the wrong ram memory module either it will not be recognized or it will crash your operating system.
    Hope this helps
