Why is my Acer Aspire 5570z completely dead?

I have a Acer Aspire 5570z made in 2007. It has always performed flawlessly. The screen went black and all indications that the system is alive stopped. All lights and signs of life disappeared. Now when I push the on/off button, nothing at all happens. What could cause this? Is the motherboard completely shot? Any ideas?

Power supply is another possibility. Check the cord in another outlet too. Power button wires could be loose on the motherboard or the power switch is shot. I’ve seen it all…..
